Echocardiographic features of free floating thrombus mimicking right ventricular myxoma.

چکیده
M-mode and cross-sectional echocardiography performed in a patient with acute pulmonary embolism showed a sausage shaped, mobile mass in the right ventricular cavity highly suggestive of a right ventricular myxoma. Emergency thoracotomy 24 hours later showed the right ventricle to be free of tumour but both pulmonary arteries contained embolised venous thrombi, one or more of which were thought to have given rise to the false echocardiographic diagnosis of a right ventricular tumour.

Echocardiographic findings of floating thrombus in left atrium.
We describe the M-mode and two-dimensional echocardiographic findings of a floating thrombus in the left atrium. Though the features resembled those of pedunculated left atrial myxoma, two-dimensional echocardiography was helpful in differentiating between thrombus and myxoma in the left atrium.
متن کاملRight Ventricular Myxoma—A Case Report
From an epidemiologic perspective, cardiac myxomas are best divided into the following 2 categories: those that arise in isolation and those that arise in the setting of a syndrome (so called Carney Complex). The former account for about 90% 95% of cases, while the later account for a minority of cases and those arise from the right or left ventricle constitute as 3% each. Real-time twodimensio...
متن کاملClinical presentation and non-invasive diagnosis of right heart masses.
Right-sided cardiac masses do not have a uniform clinical presentation. Successful diagnosis is dependent on a high index of suspicion and appropriate echocardiographic examination. Five cases of right sided intracardiac masses have been detected during the period that echocardiography has been routinely available to us--two of right atrial myxoma, one of right atrial thrombus, and two of right...
متن کاملRight atrial thrombus mimicking myxoma with pulmonary embolism in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus and secondary antiphospholipid syndrome.
Antiphospholipid syndrome is a well-defined entity that is characterized by spontaneous abortion, thrombocytopenia, and recurrent arterial and venous thromboses. A partially calcified right atrial thrombus mimicking myxoma with recurrent pulmonary embolism has not been previously reported in a patient who also had systemic lupus erythematosus and secondary antiphospholipid syndrome. Herein, we ...
متن کاملGiant pedunculated thrombus with normal left ventricular systolic function mimicking myxoma.
A 74-year-old woman with a history of essential thrombocythemia was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit because of atypical chest pain. The transthoracic echocardiogram showed normal left ventricular (LV) diameter and preserved regional and global systolic function. A pedunculated mobile mass measuring 25 mm × 14 mm was visualized in the LV cavity, attached to the midanterior wall. Because of th...
